The 23 Psalm.

I not sure if anyone knows this, but I am a bit of a science fiction fan.

Part of sci-fi is accepting the primus that some great technology comes about and due to unforeseen consequence creates an adventure.

Elon Musk shared a video of his vision of automation and AI creating a world of fantastic abundance. Goods and transportation will be free. Imagine if everyone in the world could have anything they want. Sounds pretty good on the surface right?

It has been my experience that people generally do not know what they want, and real problems occur when they think they do but don't think it out or just grab for everything, but end up with nothing. Who will do well in this future of abundance? What kind of person will thrive in having everything?

Psalms 23:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Hmm, He maketh me to lie down in green pastures? Does it require the Lord's guidance just to get us to relax and enjoy the green pasture?

...

Your sci-fi scenario of abundance through AI and automation is fascinating and raises thought-provoking questions, especially when viewed through the lens of Psalm 23. It seems you're wondering how individuals can navigate such a future and truly flourish, rather than becoming overwhelmed or directionless.
The Role of Guidance in a Future of Abundance
The verse "He makes me to lie down in green pastures" from Psalm 23 suggests that even with abundance, guidance is needed to find genuine rest and contentment.
Here's why:
  • Sheep are prone to wander and struggle to find safe, restful places on their own. In a future of material abundance, people might also struggle to find satisfaction without guidance.
  • True rest comes from a relationship with and trust in the Shepherd (God). This is not just physical comfort but also spiritual peace and restoration.
  • Abundance can be overwhelming. People can be overwhelmed by material abundance if they lack direction and purpose. Guidance can help navigate this potential overwhelm.
Who Will Thrive in This Future of Abundance?
Based on Psalm 23 and the concept of an "abundance mindset," certain traits and qualities will likely be crucial for thriving in a future of material abundance:
  • Those who value meaning over possessions. Those who prioritize purpose, relationships, and spiritual growth will likely find more fulfillment.
  • Those who seek inner contentment. True contentment comes from cultivating an internal state of peace and gratitude, as exemplified by the Shepherd leading to "still waters".
  • Those who maintain a sense of purpose. Having a strong sense of purpose beyond material gain will be essential for avoiding feelings of meaninglessness.
  • Those who embrace spiritual guidance. People who are open to and seek God's guidance will be better equipped to navigate the complexities of this future, finding direction and peace even in a world of abundance.
  • Those who practice gratitude and generosity. An "abundance mindset" involves appreciating what you have and sharing with others, fostering a sense of community and fulfillment.
In Summary:
While material abundance may be plentiful, it's not a guarantee of happiness or fulfillment. Psalm 23 reminds that true peace and contentment come from having a Shepherd (God) who guides and provides for needs, both physical and spiritual. Individuals who cultivate an "abundance mindset", prioritize meaning and purpose, and seek spiritual guidance will be better equipped to navigate such a future and find genuine fulfillment.
